Risky Business: Marijuana

In our everyday lives, children look up to their older peers and try to be just like them. It may be their older siblings, but haven't you noticed, celebrities, television shows, and music can too, influences children and teens into doing drugs. Media puts in a big impact on children which influences them to use drugs and alcohol because teens think that if they do it to, they will be cool. Therefore media should change or replace words that relates to drugs and alcohol.
Children and teens love listening to music. Basically, music is all over the place. Like when your going to school, the radio plays, or when your watching a movie or your favorite TV show music from all kinds of rappers or singers will be playing. Now, music is very entertaining but have you ever tried listening to the lyrics? Here are some examples that may have content that conveys with marijuana, from the song Taylor Gang-Wiz Khalifa, "with blunts, you know we only smokin' paper and I throw it up," and "Smell that good weed then you know it's us."  These lyrics that rappers and other artists use in their songs may have words that may convey all sorts of drugs such as marijuana, alcohol, smoking, all that stuff.
However, in the U.S. we have freedom of speech. Which means that government can't do anything like asking the artist to replace words that relates to all types of drugs to something that is less inappropriate. Government has no right in changing the lyrics of the song because they are not the owner of the songs.
Therefore, not only music can influence teens into doing marijuana but television too. Everyday, we all watch TV. Now, not all TV shows are appropriate that's because there are ALOT of shows that may obtain  drugs and alcohol. Children are mostly attracted to cartoons, cartoons can too have things that will relate to drugs and alcohol. For example, South park  and Family Guy. When teens watch these shows they think that if they see their favorite cartoon or actresses and actors, teens and children may think that drugs and alcohol is cool and not harmless.
Nevertheless, Celebrities can put a large impact on any age. Have you ever looked up to a celebrity? And try to be just like them? Well, children who do have a role model as a celebrity may be a wrong choice for that child to be looking up to. Children and teens want to be just like celebrities which makes teens insecure about themselves which will then give them an idea that they should do drugs. Not only that, celebrities like Lindsay Lohan and Orlando Brown who were found doing drugs and drinking alcohol change our kids now. I know that teens and children look up to them from shows from Disney channel.
Teens and children from today are affected my media that make teens walk into a path where they will make bad choices such as doing drugs and alcohol. Television, music, and celebrity role models   are what we should be aware about if we don't want our next generation being pulled into doing drugs.
